Professor Jongwoo Jeremy Kim Awarded Clark Fellowship

Posted on April 25, 2024

Professor Jongwoo Jeremy Kim has been selected as 2026 Clark Fellow at the Clark Art Institute. This residential fellowship in Williamstown, Massachusetts is widely considered to be one of the most prestigious academic honors in the field of Art History.

Engaging with the scholarly communities of the Clark and Williams College, Kim will complete his new book “Asian Accents”, which analyzes queer artists whose familial history stems from transpacific immigration. Each chapter investigates Asian American unbelonging that dispels white-settler culture’s harmful rhetoric. Asian American art celebrating sexual and non-sexual queering illuminates a core experience of this nation’s divergent visuality comprising ancestral dissidents and refugees. This book explores diasporic picture-making in a culture that dismisses the bigness of Asian American noncompliance.
